One of the biggest advantages of Hoover SteamVac is the Clean Surge feature. Clean Surge is a function controlled with a button placed at your fingertip on the handle which allows you to inject more cleaning solution into the water to clean harder stains. When you think that the specific area where you apply the clean surge is clean enough, you can release the button and then dry the spot that you have washed. This feature provides excellent flexibility by allowing you to determine how much detergent would any particular spot on your carpet needs.
The inclusion of two separate tanks is also another plus. The two tanks on the SteamVac Clean Surge are designed to separately hold the clean water and detergent and the dirty water. The tank at the top mixes the cleaning solution with hot clean water, while the one at the bottom collects and stores the dirty water that is sucked from the carpet. The mechanism designed to empty the dirty water tank is also nicely designed and functions properly.

Quite frankly, the Hoover SteamVac has very few cons. One of these cons is that you will need to be a little patient when cleaning your carpets and do not expect the speed of a commercial carpet cleaner. This is a consumer product after all, and it would be wise to treat it so. With that said, with two passes of clean surge (which applies detergent and clean water into the carpet) and two drying passes, you will be able to perfectly clean your carpet (unless you haven’t cleaned your carpet for years and the carpet is very badly stained).
While some users complain that the unit leaks water, this seems to be a user error rather than a problem with the product itself. When you read the user manual, you will find that there is a simple installation procedure that you will need to perform once. Once you do that, your unit should not leak any water.
Also, some users prefer to use boiling water as the SteamVac does not contain a heater. While it would be nice to have a heater, it would mean sacrificing part of the suction power. Our suggestion is not to use too hot water as it can be dangerous.
